Some people (and, I think Scott Adams is one of those people) don't understand that scientism and science aren't the same thing. Scientism is the belief that science is the only way of knowing what's true, or real. The scientific method is just a tool. It's beneficial, and it helps us in many ways. But, it shouldn't be held up as the only way of knowing. I know what I had for breakfast this morning, and I didn't have to read a peer reviewed study to know that.
