The article didn’t mention anything about underage people, so presumably the johns thought they were setting up meetings with legal-age sex workers. It turns out there were no real sex workers involved, it was just cops acting like it online. So the whole scenario just involves johns and law enforcement, but no sex workers or trafficking victims.

By targeting those involved in this crime, we hope to disrupt this activity and provide assistance to human trafficking victims by getting them connected to the advocates and resources they need”

said HSI Special Agent in Charge Lester R. Hayes, Jr.

The only “crime” was attempted online solicitation of prostitution. Since no real sex workers were involved, there were no trafficking victims to assist. This whole operation didn’t provide trafficking victims with any resources or help, because it didn’t involve those people at all.

Unless they can show that the johns were specifically requesting sex workers who were below legal age of consent, then this sting operation is pretty lame. Seems like a witch hunt or a DHS-sponsored propaganda campaign: ‘see, these American white men and black men in conservative regions are no better than the whore-loving Davos crowd.’
