I believe it kills primarily plant life, but everything is interconnected in the circle of life: plants, fungi, and microbes, so one way or another, it's hurting the target plant while causing farmers' dependency on commercial fertilizers. The fact that one single crop is grown year after year in this unnatural way, depletes the soil of minerals and that leads to foods that are less nutritious.
