History class in 1875 would have covered up to the Civil War and the end of slavery. History class in 1930 has WW 1, Women's suffrage, and the Great Depression added, so what gets reduced or eliminated to cover that? History class 1950 adds WW 2. History class 1975 adds the civil rights struggle, lunar landing, Cold War, Korean, and Vietnam wars. 2000 adds the Iraq war. 2002 adds the war on terror.

History class doesn't get longer to cover the new material, which means the material they do cover shortens or falls off entirely. At some point they probably won't even cover all the wars we've been in.
