Do onto others as you would have them do unto you.

Its as much a teaching of lawful consequence as it is a teaching of forgiveness.

Do onto others as you would have them do unto you.

It doesn't just apply to being nice to people. Its the basis of law and order.

The Golden Rule and the turning of the other cheek belong together as a complete teaching, people see them as contradictory, but they are not. They are complementary. The former was a teaching of law order, the latter of forgiveness and endurance. Taken together an eye for an eye will not make the whole world blind -- taking just the latter gives power to authority, taking just the former gives power to authority. Taking both gives power to the people, who are under God and God's guidance.
