Did you look at the photos of the Pit Bull victims? They can kill a horse or a grown man without any disabilities. People are losing eyes, legs, arms, noses, scalps, lips and sometimes their life.

People own guns, carry guns and shoot them. But guns are inanimate objects. Pit bulls running free in the street is another story. I believe and am comfortable with guns for an informed and stable owner.

If you think about it, dying by dog contributes to depopulation.

Also a person severely maimed may not lead a normal life.

Being disfigured may be a factor in finding a mate. (It shouldn't be, but it may be). That will contribute to less reproduction.

If they are unable to do activities of daily living, it will hardship on them and perhaps others - family and friends.

All contribute to depopulation.

At the very least, anyone owning a pit bull should have an official inspection of where the dog is kept, how much area there is, owner understanding and secure fencing. I saw a pit bull climbing over a cyclone fence like a ladder. This inspection should be done at intervals to ensure it's housing is safe and adequate. Also the owner must be responsible for accidents or injuries.
