I'm not an expert on this topic, but if you read Genesis, it looks like Adam gave away his God given authority over his act of disobedience, and Satan became "the god of this world" temporarily. That ends upon Christ's return. Satan means enemy or adversary. Satan has a degree of power until the judgment and consummation. Bible says Satan wanted to BE God, and so he is now "the god of this world" so I reckon he schemed for it and is a usurper. Bible also says hell was made for the Devil and his angels.

I know it is frustrating to think about why evil has to exist. It is only temporary. Eventually, it will all make sense.
