The US military is VERY compartmentalized. When I say “the Military”, I do not mean every single person in the military. DARPA is a great example. They do all kinds of futuristic weapons and equipment testing there. But dont think for one second DARPA is where the really scary shit is developed. DARPA is the public facing org. As far as ‘getting out’. It does get out. Bob Lazar spilled the beans on Area51. After that there was a shit ton of talk about “Area 52&53 (Wright Patterson AFB iirc). Stealth tech. That was under wraps for decades before the public found out.

EDIT: I know a LITTLE about one that will flip your melon … they have been working on cloaking tech. Its a ‘skin’ that redirects visible light around an object essentially making it “transparent”.
