And some Departments may directly employ them versus being employed by a separate company/State or local Agency and technically consider them sworn officers. Which carries with it certain obligations such as providing support to other Officers in need of Assistance.

That and the proverbial “Brotherhood of Law Enforcement” can very much be a real thing. We had a local County Officer shot a few year back. The Minute the radio sounded “10-00 Shots Fired Officer Down.”

Every Department and Jurisdiction for 30 Miles had Officers Responding. County Police, Local Police, State Troopers, Department of Corrections, University Police, County Sheriff, Local Sheriff. Even Federal Agents responded.

So if an Officer called for backup. She may have responded without really thinking about it or considering her own skills/training
