Obviously they need to time to "consider the evidence." They also have to vote on whether to call witnesses too.

They absolutely could do that. The only punishment is disqualifying them from holding office in the future. Which neither of them plan to do, so would be a pointless exercise.

Except the precedent has ALREADY been set. By the Belknap impeachment.

The current whip count is that only 6 or 7 will vote to convict. BUT it is my understanding that only 2/3 of PRESENT senators have to vote. So if some just decide to skip the vote...

What? Trump has already been impeached, and why do we want senators to vote for conviction??

Didn't the tweet actually say "calvary?" Trump's lawyer used it as evidence earlier that the Dem manipulated /misrepresented evidence.

It's a reference to Hitler and nazi Germany. The "stab in the back" myth.

Isn't it standard to meet with your client and go over the timeline etc prior to going to "trial?" This is definitely opening the door to call Trump as a witness.

I'm sure he expected it. Cruz, Lee and Graham have been meeting with Trump's team all day.

It IS a political exercise, not a criminal trial. Republicans can do the same.

They just rested their case after 3 hours. And much of it was used replaying the videos.

Mark me down as not impressed.

I've been one of those people. Had my car worked on and they provided a valet service to my home. Mask required though. It was either that, or sit for hours in the waiting room with my mask.

Can we get a weather exception though? I live in the mountains and wear a face covering sometimes, just because the cold air aggravates my asthma. Especially since I'm outside a lot caring for my animals.

I heard an attorney say that attorneys have a vested interest in keeping as many people happy as possible. Basically, since this is so incredibly politized at this point, they don't want to alienate potential clients. Think of all the corporations that stopped donations after Jan 6th. Same thing will happen to any attorney representing Trump. Lots of big corporations run by liberals, and the vast majority of attorneys are in it for the money, not principle.

Seems like the only thing they really want to present is that Trump's comments are protected by the 1A. The plan to be done in a few hours, the one attorney can't work past 5 for religious reasons. Kinda looks like there isn't going to be anything really worth freaking out over.

Yes! This is accurate. Also, if they change a report, or a person goes missing 2+ times in a year( not uncommon with trouble teens) it counts each report in the total. The vast majority of kids are taken by a family member.
