That's masking. You film different plates so you can edit out things you don't want like microphones

It's just a shonky edit.

An editor with tight deadlines included a layer he didn't mean to.

So the mics were from a layer they didn't mean to include. Might have been from any footage where they masked out mics. So what? Just an obvious editing error.

Well yeah. They masked the boom mics out and then screwed up the layers in the transmission tape.

It's perfectly normal to mask out boom mics.

What would be weird would be if they faked it at great needless cost and effort for a banal question and then screwed it up.
