Mark Krikorian, the executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, says President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’s policy of “unlimited immigration” to the United States has been carried out “on purpose — not due to incompetence.”

During a House Oversight Committee hearing this week, Krikorian clarified that Biden and Harris’s welcoming of millions of migrants to American communities in less than four years is deliberate, not by accident.

“The Biden-Harris record on immigration is the result of neither incompetence nor failure. The largest border crisis in the history of our country, probably the largest such event in human history, began on January 20, 2021, on purpose — not due to incompetence,” Krikorian said:

Since that date, there have been more than 10 million encounters of inadmissible aliens at our borders, millions of whom have been and who continue to be unlawfully allowed to enter the United States. This did not happen because the Biden-Harris administration and its impeached Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas made mistakes or miscalculations. [Emphasis added]

Krikorian said Biden, Harris, and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s right-to-migrate ideology has dictated the administration’s official border policies even though they are contrary to federal immigration law.

“There are two ways of thinking about the immigration issue overall: Either no one in the world is allowed to come here and we make limited exceptions or everyone in the world is allowed to come here with certain limited exceptions,” Krikorian said:

The Immigration and Nationality Act, of course, is based on the former perspective. No foreigner has a right to move here, but we the people decide the specific grounds to admit a limited number of people. [Emphasis added]

This administration’s approach to immigration is based on … the opposite view — that everyone in the world has a right to move here if they so wish and the American people have no right to place limits on immigration apart from those related to basic safety. [Emphasis added]

Krikorian said that instead of the term “open borders,” he prefers to more accurately describe the Biden-Harris policy as one of “unlimited immigration” regardless of the impact on American citizens.

“I would describe the Biden-Harris approach to immigration as one of unlimited immigration that holds that any limits on the levels of immigration are morally indefensible and circumventing those limits by any means is a moral duty,” Krikorian said.

“This is fundamentally contrary to federal law, of course, but also contrary to the Constitution and the sovereignty and consent of the government,” he continued.

Krikorian’s testimony comes as a report from the House Homeland Security Committee, published this week, detailed how more than 85 percent of migrants arriving at the southern border are being released into American communities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was joking when he endorsed US Vice President Kamala Harris’ election campaign, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said. The outcome of the election doesn’t matter, Lavrov added, because Washington is controlled by the “deep state.”

Speaking to reporters in Vladivostok earlier this month, Putin claimed that while he previously favored US President Joe Biden, he would root for Harris since Biden endorsed her after suspending his campaign in July. Harris “laughs so infectiously” that it suggests “everything is going well for her,” he added. Putin’s ‘endorsement’ immediately made headlines in the US, with the White House demanding that the Russian president “stop talking about our elections.”

Putin “has a good sense of humor” and “often resorts to jokes during his speeches and interviews,” Lavrov told Sky News Arabia earlier this week.

However, Moscow doesn’t “see any difference” between Harris, former US President Donald Trump, or any other American politician, “because the notorious ‘deep state’ is operating” in the US.

The term ‘deep state’ refers to the unelected and often unknown government bureaucrats who steer government policy, particularly the leaders of intelligence agencies and the military. Trump railed against the deep state throughout his presidency, accusing its members of obstructing his efforts to withdraw from Afghanistan and Syria, and orchestrating the ‘Russiagate’ hoax to damage his reputation and sour relations between Washington and Moscow.

Putin has asserted before that these shadowy bureaucrats are the real center of power in the US, telling American journalist Tucker Carlson in February that US policy is “not about the personality of the leader, it is about the elites’ mindset.”

“I have no illusions about the US leader,” Lavrov told Sky News Arabia, explaining that while Trump was friendly to himself and Putin, sanctions against Russia were still “introduced regularly, consistently and quite seriously” under his administration.

Likewise, despite Biden being “in such a physical condition that he has not been able to lead the country for a long time,” the US maintains its foreign policy. “It continues the military campaign through the Ukrainian regime, and in other parts of the world continues to block any resolutions at the UN Security Council that demand a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.”

“The ‘machine’ is working,” he stated, “and it is charged with never having a competitor who will threaten American dominance.”

Faced with this reality, Russia must rely on itself, Lavrov concluded. “We will never again in our history rely on the fact that a ‘good uncle’ will come to the White House or another Western capital and everything will be fine for us,” he declared.

In what could be a massive game changer in the 2024 presidential election, the union representing workers from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has endorsed Kamala Harris.

In a press release this week, the National Treasury Employees Union which represents workers of the Internal Revenue Service confirmed that the decision had been taken “after extensive research into the candidates’ records regarding the federal workforce, and consultation with NTEU members and chapter leaders across the country.”

“When it comes to treating federal employees with respect, valuing their service, and investing in their work, Kamala Harris is the clear choice,” said NTEU National President Doreen Greenwald.

“She shares our values and our commitment to making sure that the federal government works for all Americans. She has been a strong advocate for the issues that matter most to federal employees: fair pay, paid family leave, adequate agency funding and staffing, and robust collective bargaining rights.”

The release continues:

Harris’ role as vice president in one of the most pro-labor administrations in history is another major factor in the endorsement decision. Vice President Harris personally led the administration’s efforts to expand workers’ rights as Chair of the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment, which leveled the playing field for federal employee unions and improved organizing efforts. Working with Congress, the administration also delivered agency budgets that provide federal employees with additional staffing and resources, including significant new investments to rebuild the IRS under the Inflation Reduction Act.

“Harris’ commitment to sign the 2024 bipartisan border bill and increase staffing so our members at Customs and Border Protection can do their jobs securing the border at the ports of entry are examples of her commitment to ensuring federal agencies are properly funded and staffed, which is one of the many reasons why all Americans should vote for Kamala Harris,” Greenwald said.

“Kamala Harris has a long career in public service, which has given her a keen understanding of how the skilled civil servants who perform the day-to-day work of government are vital to our democracy,” Greenwald said. “She is a powerful voice for workers and their unions, recognizing that taxpayers are better served when the federal workforce is organized and empowered to help agencies meet their important public service missions.”

As mentioned in the press release, the IRS was particularly pleased about the provisions within the Inflation Reduction Act, which included $80 billion in funding for the agency to hire another 87,000 employees.

However, the IRS is already demanding more. Back in May, they requested another $20 billion allocation from Congress to fund the hiring of another 14,000 employees in order to harass taxpayers and investigate “discriminatory practices.”

Lebanon has banned pagers and walkie-talkies from flights to and from Beirut, the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) has reported.

The restrictions were enacted after at least 37 people were killed and some 3,000 were injured when hand-held devices used by Hezbollah members exploded across Lebanon throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. The militants have blamed Israel for the incident.

“Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport on Wednesday issued a new directive prohibiting passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on board any aircraft,” NNA reported on Thursday, citing a statement from Faid El Hassan, the head of the Lebanese civil aviation authority. The ban applies to all types of luggage and cargo, he added.

Hezbollah has previously opted to use pagers as a low-tech and supposedly secure method of communication out of fear that Israel would hack into their smartphones and use them for surveillance.

While West Jerusalem has not confirmed or denied its involvement, multiple media outlets reported that Israel’s spy agency Mossad was responsible for rigging the devices with explosives.

The New York Times cited sources as saying that Mossad set up a fake firm in Hungary in order to produce the compromised pagers under a licensing agreement with a Taiwanese company.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has said that the blasts were tantamount to a “declaration of war” and vowed to retaliate. Israeli officials, meanwhile, reiterated that they were determined to stop Hezbollah from firing rockets and mortar shells into northern Israel.

The UN has condemned the pager and walkie-talkie explosions as “unacceptable,” with the organization’s human rights chief Volker Turk calling for an independent probe into the incident.

Descendants of John Two Guns White Calf, a Native American chief who inspired the now-retired logo of the Washington Commanders football team (previously known as the Redskins), have called for his return to NFL events.

“The fans want him back and we want him back,” Thomas White Calf, a great nephew of the celebrated early-20th-century Blackfeet tribe leader, told Fox News last week.

“Our ancestor was the most famous and most photographed native in history,” he added, speaking on the phone alongside his mother, Delphine White Calf. “I’m proud of him. The Blackfeet are proud of him.”

The conservative news network interviewed the family after they met Montana Senator Steve Daines – a vocal critic of the 2020 decision to rebrand the franchise. The lawmaker brought up what he believes to be a historic wrong in Congress and in the media on multiple occasions.

“Make no mistake, this logo was inspired and envisioned … as a tribute to Native Americans. It is not a caricature. It is a depiction of pride and strength. Of courage and honor,” he said at a Senate subcommittee hearing in May.

Blackie Wetzel, another Blackfeet tribal leader, is credited for creating the logo in 1971. The next year, the Washington Redskins NFL franchise adopted it.

Both the name and the mascot were retired in 2020, against the backdrop of racial protest following the death of George Floyd. Major investors and shareholders put pressure on the team’s top sponsors, claiming that the branding promoted negative stereotypes about Native Americans.

The management caved in, though the Redskins were renamed as the Commanders only two years later.

A spokesman for the team told Fox News that it is collaborating with Senator Daines “to honor the legacy of our team’s heritage and the Native American community,” but had no intention of reviving the old logo.

The news outlet pinned the blame for the naming controversy on the non-profit National Congress of American Indians. Among other things, it seeks to eradicate what it perceives as inappropriate mascots in sports and complained against the Redskins in 2013 in a 29-page report on the issue.

“Today’s harmful ‘Indian’ mascots are very much an extension of the commercialization of race such as black face and African-American stereotypes,” the document claimed.

Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency has been accused of planting explosives in 5,000 pagers imported by Hezbollah, setting the stage for devastating detonations across Lebanon, according to Reuters, citing a senior Lebanese security source.

The carefully orchestrated attack targeted Hezbollah terrorists, killing at least 11 people, and more than 4,000 have been injured, including the Iranian envoy to Beirut, marking the “biggest security breach” the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terror network has faced since its ongoing war with Israel began.

Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amini, has suffered severe injuries and has lost one eye. The question now is how an ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran has a Hezbollah pager.

Far-left New York Times reported that the pagers, AR-924 model, were ordered from Taiwanese manufacturer Gold Apollo and had been tampered with before reaching Hezbollah’s hands.

Explosive material was implanted next to the battery of each pager, enabling remote detonation. At precisely 3:30 p.m., the devices received a message that appeared to be from Hezbollah’s leadership. Instead, the message triggered an explosion.

According to officials who spoke to NYT, the devices were programmed to beep for several seconds before exploding.

Gold Apollo founder Hsu Ching-Kuang stated that the pagers involved in the explosion were manufactured by a European company that had the rights to use Gold Apollo’s brand, though he could not immediately recall the company’s name.

“The product was not ours. It was only that it had our brand on it,” Hsu told reporters in Taiwan.

In a separate statement, the company identified the manufacturer as BAC.

“We authorize BAC to use our brand trademark for product sales in specific regions, but the design and manufacturing of the products are entirely handled by BAC,” the statement said.

Reuters reported:

Hezbollah fighters have been using pagers as a low-tech means of communication in an attempt to evade Israeli location-tracking, two sources familiar with the group’s operations told Reuters this year.

But the senior Lebanese source said the devices had been modified by Israel’s spy service “at the production level.”

“The Mossad injected a board inside of the device that has explosive material that receives a code. It’s very hard to detect it through any means. Even with any device or scanner,” the source said.

The source said 3,000 of the pagers exploded when a coded message was sent to them, simultaneously activating the explosives.

Another security source told Reuters that up to three grams of explosives were hidden in the new pagers and had gone “undetected” by Hezbollah for months.

Hsu said he did not know how the pagers could have been rigged to explode.

Israeli officials did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

"Stupid" is the greatest threat to mankind and to democracy that we as a global community must face every day.

We are pledging to reduce the "Stupid" in the population by 38.2% by 2030 and completely eliminate all "Stupid" by the year 2045.

These are lofty goals to be sure, but by working together we can achieve the unachievable if we strive to make these achievements our goals to achieve. (Derp.)

So take a "Stupid" under your wing today. Slap 'em a couple of times and remind them to turn off the "Auto Pilot" and turn on their "Noodle."

If that doesn't get it done then you can call the "Stupid Squad" and we'll put them in the town stocks for a few days to induce the rational thought process.

Together we can change the world.

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), which represents nearly 300,000 postal workers responsible for handling millions of mail-in ballots, has endorsed Kamala Harris over Donald Trump.

In a press statement, the NALC said that Harris and her running mate Tim Walz were greater friends of the union movement than Donald Trump:

The nation’s 290,000 active and retired city letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) are proud to announce our endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz to serve as the next president and vice president of the United States.

As a local prosecutor, state attorney general, senator, and vice president, Kamala Harris is a proven supporter of working families, organized labor, and the Postal Service. As a senator, she was instrumental in advocating for essential relief for the Postal Service at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She served as vice president of the administration that signed the Postal Service Reform Act into law. She is a fierce defender of civil rights, voting rights, and our democratic system.

Governor Walz is a union brother and veteran. He is a former public school teacher who has devoted his life to public service. As governor, he has kept working families at the forefront by enacting a paid family and medical leave program, child tax credits, and universal free school meals for all Minnesota students.

The endorsement will inevitably further undermine trust in America’s already broken electoral system, where mail-in ballots were weaponized during the 2020 presidential to tip the scales in favor of Joe Biden.

There are also growing signs that postal workers are unable to handle the quantity of mail-in ballots and that they may once again be used in aid of the Democratic Party fraud machine.

As reported by The Gateway Pundit on Thursday, state officials across the country are warning that mail delivery issues could lead to the disenfranchisement of millions of voters in November.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is in Washington D.C. today for Ukraine War talks with U.S. President Joe Biden as Moscow threatens dire repercussions for mooted long-range weapon strikes into the Russian hinterland.

Long range cruise missile strikes using Western arms but in Ukrainian hands are on the table today in Washington D.C. today, following a diplomatic mission to Kyiv earlier this week. British politicians speak in only slightly veiled terms about untying Ukraine’s hands to use the advanced missiles it already has further afield, but top Russian figures including Vladimir Putin say striking deep inside Russia would mean war between Moscow and the West.

Talks between Sir Keir Starmer, two months in office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden are to take place today but ahead of that meeting Starmer and his foreign envoy David Lammy have spoken out on the importance they see in getting these advanced weapons signed off for Ukraine.

British broadsheet The Daily Telegraph notes the remarks by the two men, placing them in the context of the missile discussion although neither namechecked the weapons. Lammy is reported to have told the paper: “… it is crystal clear that Russia is escalating … we’re here to strategise, to understand how we can put Ukrainians in a position to win and what is needed.”

Starmer is reported to have said while the United Kingdom sought no conflict with Russia, stating “they started this conflict, and Ukraine’s got a right to self-defence”, the Prime Minister alluded to the missile question, saying of his coming talks with the President: “That is why we have been providing training and capability. And, you know, there are obviously further discussions to be had about the nature of that capability”.

Russian state media has promoted President Vladimir Putin’s remarks on the possibility of British and American-supplied weapons striking deep into Russia, presumably to take out airbases where strikes against Ukraine are launched, presently well out of Kyiv’s reach. The President of the Russian Federation said such strikes would “change the very nature of the conflict” and would “mean that NATO countries, the U.S., European countries, are at war with Russia.”

Putin’s spokesman followed up on Friday, asserting that the message was “extremely clear, unambiguous and admits of no dual interpretations”, and had been “no doubt” received by its intended audience, the leadership of NATO states.

While Putin’s talk is grave, others were more lurid in their imagery of warning and threat. Long-time Putin factotum Dmitry Medvedev, who these days wears the hat of Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, made specific reference to the United Kingdom, a country with which he has long held a particular animosity for, frequently calling it Russia’s traditional enemy.

“The island called Britain is likely to sink in the next few years. Our hypersonic missiles will help if necessary”, he said, referring to Russia’s new generation of extremely fast — and potentially nuclear-tipped — missiles.

The World Health Organization says it has granted its first authorization for use of a vaccine against mpox in adults, calling it an important step toward fighting against the disease in Africa

WHO grants first mpox vaccine approval to ramp up response to disease in AfricaBy JAMEY KEATENAssociated PressThe Associated PressGENEVA

GENEVA (AP) — The World Health Organization said Friday it has granted its first authorization for use of a vaccine against mpox in adults, calling it an important step toward fighting the disease in Africa.

The approval of the vaccine by Bavarian Nordic A/S means that donors like vaccines alliance Gavi and UNICEF can buy it. But supplies are limited because there’s only a single manufacturer.

“This first (authorization) of a vaccine against mpox is an important step in our fight against the disease, both in the context of the current outbreaks in Africa, and in future,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The U.N. health agency chief called for “urgent” scale-up of procurement, donations and rollout to get the vaccine where it is needed most, along with other response measures.

Under the WHO authorization, the vaccine can be administered in people aged 18 or above in a two-dose regimen. The approval says that while the vaccine is not currently licensed for those under 18 years old, it may be used in infants, children and adolescents “in outbreak settings where the benefits of vaccination outweigh the potential risks.”

The mpox vaccine made by Bavarian Nordic was previously authorized by numerous rich countries across Europe and North America during the global mpox outbreak in 2022. Millions of doses given to adults showed the vaccine helped slow the virus’ spread, but there is limited evidence of how it works in children.

Officials at the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention said last month that nearly 70% of cases in Congo — the country hardest hit by mpox — are in children younger than 15, who also accounted for 85% of deaths.

Overall, WHO said over 120 countries have confirmed more than 103,000 cases of mpox since the outbreak began two years ago. Its latest tally, as of Sunday, showed that 723 people in more than a dozen countries in Africa have died of the disease.

African experts have estimated they might need about 10 million vaccines to stop the ongoing outbreaks on the continent. As of last week, Congo, the most-affected country, had received only about 250,000 doses.

On Thursday, the Africa CDC said 107 new deaths and 3,160 new cases had been recorded in the past week, just a week after it and WHO launched a continental response plan.

Mpox belongs to the same family of viruses as smallpox but causes milder symptoms like fever, chills and body aches. People with more serious cases can develop lesions on the face, hands, chest and genitals.

The union representing the nation’s postal workers, who will handle millions of ballots as part of the mass vote-by-mail system, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president on Thursday.

Voters are being asked to trust an election system in which a key part of the process of casting votes is controlled by an organization loyal to one candidate.

In a press statement, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) announced its endorsement:

The nation’s 290,000 active and retired city letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) are proud to announce our endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz to serve as the next president and vice president of the United States.

Governor Walz is a union brother and veteran. He is a former public school teacher who has devoted his life to public service. As governor, he has kept working families at the forefront by enacting a paid family and medical leave program, child tax credits, and universal free school meals for all Minnesota students.

The Pew Research Center reported in July that Republicans and Democrats continue to have vastly divergent views on vote-by-mail. 82% of Democrats say it should be freely available without excuse; only 37% of Republicans agree.

Similarly, 63% of Republicans say that making it easier to register and vote would make elections less secure, while only 20% of Democrats agree. Universal vote-by-mail and other changes were imposed in many states in 2020 by judicial fiat, usually after Democrats sued to impose reforms over the objections of Republicans.

"If you vote by mail you have to give your ballot to someone whose union has endorsed one side in the election. How this is even legal at all is completely baffling."

Few other democracies in the world use vote-by-mail, and many democracies refuse to allow absentee voting except in limited circumstances.

In June 2020 a video went viral of a black conservative Bevelyn Williams absolutely destroying a woke white liberal in the streets of Seattle on Biden versus Trump.

“If I had to pick between [Trump] and Joe Biden. I am not voting in Joe Biden. You want to see black people go to jail by the next 4 years? Vote for Joe Biden,” the black woman said.

The black woman continued to school the woke white liberal on the history of the racist Democrat party.

“[The Democrats] hate black people. These are the same people who fought to keep slavery in. These are the same people who built the KKK,” she said.

The white liberal just stood there in silence and the black woman continued, “The Republican party is the party of blacks.”

The woman, Bevelyn Beatty Williams, later woman joined Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle.

During the discussion Bevelyn Beatty did not hold back.

Bevelyn Beatty: “If you want to look at the devices of the devil, you have to look at the Democrat Party. he uses who he may and unfortunately it’s the Democrat party… The left is so radical. They want you to ban the police. They just want Trump to give up his authorities and just let them run and turn our country into a communist country… Why in your right mind would you defund the police?”

Since hat time, Beverlyn has preached and protested for pro-life causes and in support of Republicans across the US.

In July 2020, Bevelyn Williams and several others were arrested after they painted over the “Black Lives Matter” street protest art in New York City in front of the Trump Tower with black paint.

In November 2020, Bevelyn was stabbed by antifa thugs in Washington DC while protesting against the stolen 2020 election.

Pro-Trump activist Bevelyn Beatty and multiple Proud Boys were stabbed in DC while attempting to help another person who was being assaulted. Proud Boys founder Enrique Tarrio told The Gateway Pundit that he was slashed in the stomach, Beatty was stabbed in the back, and multiple other members of the men’s social group were stabbed and are now hospitalized with serious wounds.

A law enforcement confirmed to TGP that the group was walking down the street, away from the protests, when they saw an older man being stabbed and intervened.

On Wednesday Bevelyn Beatty Williams was sentenced to three years in federal prison.

Bevelyn blocked the doors temporarily at an abortion clinic.

She committed the same act Democrats commit almost weekly at government offices around the country.

She committed one felony – blocking an entrance to an abortion mill – and now she will serve THREE YEARS in prison.

The Catholic News Agency reported:

A Manhattan federal court sentenced Bevelyn Beatty Williams, a 33-year-old pro-life activist, to three years and five months in prison July 24 for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.

Williams was convicted of “interference, including by threats and force, with individuals seeking to obtain and provide” abortions, according to the Department of Justice. The wife and mother was sentenced after preaching the Gospel outside an abortion clinic and allegedly injuring a clinic worker’s hand and blocking the entrance.

“I was persecuted as a Christian standing for my beliefs when it comes to life,” read a statement from Williams on her fundraising page. “This is devastating news. Not only is this bond extensive for the accused crime, but she made it very clear in the courtroom that she was going to make an example out of me.”

…Williams, born in Staten Island, New York, had her first abortion at the age of 15 after she dropped out of high school, according to her ministry website At Well Ministries. She later went on to have two more abortions and went down a “self-destructive” path of drugs and drinking.

After she was arrested for money laundering, she had a conversion experience and “upon her release moved forward with the determination to choose a new path.” She co-founded At Well Ministries, which specializes in street ministry and ministry to the homeless, and she later made a shift toward pro-life activism. Williams is one of many pro-life activists who have been sentenced under the FACE Act in recent years, including several elderly people and a Catholic priest.

Breanna Morello interviewed Ms. Williams, discussing her faith and what she has gone through to date. She shares that she feels like “a Negro out of line”.

Many countries are seeking membership in BRICS because they are tired of the “hidden” and “sometimes open aggression” of the US and are looking for new forms of cooperation, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Moscow said that Türkiye had officially applied to join BRICS, becoming the first NATO state to seek membership in the non-Western economic alliance. Over 30 countries have so far applied to become part of the group, which currently incorporates ten, including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Commenting to TASS news agency on why various nations are willing to join BRICS, Zakharova said that “the world is tired of American attacks” and “is voting for a different form of relationship.”

Nations would like to keep building ties on the principles of international law, “but since Washington, like some kind of maniac from its own Hollywood movie, destroys everything with a lawn mower, a saw, or some kind of an ax, the world is forced to look for new forms of interaction,” she explained. And these forms are the likes of BRICS, but not NATO, according to the Russian diplomat.

On Wednesday, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov confirmed earlier media reports that Türkiye has officially applied to join BRICS and added that the group’s member states will consider the bid. According to the official, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also accepted Moscow’s invitation to attend the BRICS summit next month in the Russian city of Kazan. Russia is currently chairing the organization.

BRICS was founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining in 2011. The group expanded this year when Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates became full members.

The season of foreign election interference is well underway.

The Department of Justice this week announced it had seized websites linked to a Russian disinformation campaign. Federal authorities separately accused two employees of the Moscow-controlled media organization RT of being a part of a scheme to spread Russian propaganda, bolstered by millions of dollars.

And it’s not just Russia. On Friday, a hawkish think tank revealed that a network of pro-Iranian sites have been circulating disinformation around the election. That comes on the heels of the intelligence community linking Iran to a hacking of the Trump campaign. U.S. officials said in a briefing with reporters on Friday that Russia, Iran and China were all trying to influence the upcoming elections.

Just a few years ago, the political world was roiled by the news that Russia had sought to interfere with the 2016 election. Two presidential cycles later, attempted meddling from foreign governments has become an inescapable part of the U.S. election system, and presidential elections in particular have become major targets, with eye-popping stories of malign social media campaigns or illicit foreign agents. And 2024 is “lining up to be a busy election interference season,” said Chris Krebs, the former director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

The United States’ response continues to evolve.

National security experts said the Biden administration has been far more aggressive than in previous recent cycles. But officials continue to grapple with questions of how to hold bad actors accountable, deter future efforts and preserve trust in a system in which both foreign and domestic operatives are actively attempting to sow distrust.

Even the question of how much to publicize attempted interference remains unsettled: It’s important to have transparency on attempted threats, but too much attention and officials run the risk of furthering the kind of chaos and uncertainty that the malign actors hope to create.

“That is the core of the debate: whether you are in fact carrying water for the adversaries by highlighting this activity,” said Emily Harding, former deputy staff director for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

The very threats themselves have also become political fodder for all sides. After the Trump campaign hack, the former president quickly claimed he was targeted for being “strong on Iran.” A Democratic PAC is weaponizing the recent crackdown on Russian influence efforts to attack Republican candidates. And the son of a former Trump campaign adviser who was charged with violating Russian sanctions immediately politicized the proceedings against his father.

Ongoing foreign threats to American elections Fears around foreign threats to U.S. election integrity have crescendoed for years, after reports of Russian efforts to curry support for former President Donald Trump in 2016.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Attorney General Merrick Garland vowed that the Justice Department would aggressively fight attempts from foreign adversaries to interfere in this year’s elections.

“We will be relentlessly aggressive in countering and disrupting attempts by Russia and Iran — as well as China or any other foreign malign actor — to interfere in our elections and undermine our democracy,” he said at a meeting of the Election Threats Task Force, a Justice Department initiative.

And a slew of alleged attempts have emerged this year.

After federal authorities suggested that Iran had been behind the hack of the Trump campaign and an attempted hack on the Biden-Harris campaign, Meta announced that the Iranian hacking group had gone after the WhatsApp accounts of President Joe Biden and Trump staffers.

Russia has also sought to further meddle in U.S. politics, the federal government said, by using state media and websites that appeared to be independent to spread pro-Russia propaganda to influence the upcoming election. To combat those efforts, the federal government announced plans this week that include a visa restriction policy targeting Russian state-controlled media organizations and financial incentives for those who report information on the foreign election interference to federal authorities. The Treasury Department also sanctioned a number of people deemed close to Russia’s alleged election interference scheme.

The analytics company Graphika also recently released a report detailing an influence scheme tied to China, an effort called Spamouflage, that aims to shape U.S. political discourse using social media accounts.

Questions of how the United States should respond As the threat of foreign interference becomes woven into American elections, experts and officials continue to debate the appropriate response.

Criminal charges related to election interference originating overseas are typically viewed as “name and shame” indictments — meaning that the accused are unlikely to ever be arrested or stand trial, usually because they are out of reach of the U.S. government.

Indeed, when prosecutors think they have a strong chance of arresting suspects, they typically don’t announce the cases until that happens.

Despite the low likelihood of a trial or guilty plea, U.S. prosecutors have said they believe such cases can have a deterrent effect. For one, they can rein in the lifestyle of those charged by severely limiting their travel, since the defendants could be subject to arrest if they travel to any country with an extradition treaty with the United States.

They also put the government alleged to be involved on notice publicly about the gravity of U.S. concerns and serve as a reminder to the U.S. public to be wary of potential propaganda, potentially innoculating voters to its impact.

However, “name and shame” cases remain somewhat controversial within the government because they have the potential to expose intelligence sources for a case that will likely never be pursued. Some critics also question the ethics of using the criminal justice system to level accusations that will almost certainly never be hashed out in court.

And because the very nature of the interference is often to inflame the passions of the American electorate — in part by exploiting existing cultural divisions — the allegations of foreign interference themselves have often been met with derision.

For example, though intelligence agencies deemed Russia’s interference in recent presidential elections as ostensibly an effort to amplify pro-Trump messages, Trump and his allies downplayed the Russian government’s involvement. Instead, they accused the U.S. agencies themselves of political motivations — a theme the former president and his squad revived this week after the latest round of charges.

Even when foreign threats don’t directly change an election, they shape politics and the public Some national security experts warn that there is a cost to publicizing those threats — even if the steps taken by the federal government do successfully slow foreign propaganda. The attention, those experts say, can deepen public distrust in the political system and unintentionally amplify the divisive narratives that foreign states are pushing.

Foreign disinformation campaigns don’t have to convince voters to back a specific candidate or issue, for example. The very idea that disinfo is everywhere has become normalized, with voters and campaigns constantly invoking it: “Fake news!”

Gavin Wilde, former National Security Council director for Russia, Baltic and Caucasus affairs, said it was not clear whether foreign propaganda had a specific effect on how people voted. But he worries about the erosion of confidence in elections.

“That’s been problematic, because our reaction to it can cause as much stress and a sense of precarity among the public as whatever you know the Russians or Chinese are doing,” said Wilde, who contributed to assessments of Russian efforts to target the 2016 and 2020 elections.

Still, analysts praised the Biden administration’s efforts as sending a clear message. John E. Herbst, former ambassador to Ukraine during George W. Bush’s administration, lauded the “comprehensive use of American power” that put “the Russians off kilter by putting this out publicly.”

“It’s the old notion that transparency is the best disinfectant and the best defense — a very good defense in any case,” Herbst said.

But he pointed to the reaction of the Russian state-controlled media organization RT, which flouted the U.S. government’s actions by joking that “Three things are certain in life: death, taxes and RT’s interference in the US elections” and “Somewhere Secretary Clinton is sad that it’s not because of her.”

“They do that because sadly, Russian propaganda themes have made it into part of our political discourse, especially on the right,” Herbst said.

Part of the allegations against the RT employees also concerned an unnamed company funded by the Russian state-controlled media organization. That company is reportedly Tenet Media, which is connected to a number of high-profile far-right influencers.

Foreign interference allegations have also become weaponized by campaigns.

Trump was quick to say he was targeted by Iran because “I was protecting people in the Middle East that maybe they aren’t so happy about that,” an attempt to use the Iranian effort to bolster his foreign policy credentials.

But Republicans were dismissive of the news of Russia’s alleged scheme and sought to neutralize it. Stephen Miller, for example, argued in a post on X that the Department of Justice was, in fact, the real threat to election integrity. Trump also turned the allegations on Kamala Harris, writing in a post on X that the vice president and the Justice Department were “trying to interfere in and suppress the Election in favor of the Democrats by resurrecting the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax.”

And shortly after news broke of the indictment accusing a former Trump adviser of working for a sanctioned Russian television station, the man’s son, Dimitri Simes Jr., was quick to lash out at Democrats, writing on X that “Joe Biden and his stooges are impotent cowards.”

California public schools are set to begin a mandatory curriculum about climate change, reportedly designed to indoctrinate children in the state, as a law signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom last year, AB 285, takes effect.

The Federalist reported on AB 285:

Science classes for students in California will feature new additions to the curriculum this year designed to indoctrinate students on climate change through the apocalyptic lens of far-left activists.

Last fall, California lawmakers passed Assembly Bill 285 to mandate all science classes for grades 1 through 12 “include an emphasis on the causes and effects of climate change and methods to mitigate and adapt to climate change.”

The bombardment of doomsday climate commentary has meanwhile contributed to widespread environmental anxiety among children. In December 2021, The Lancet published a study from a team of nine researchers, including psychologists, environmental scientists, and psychiatrists, who surveyed 10,000 people aged 16 to 25 across 10 countries about their “climate anxiety” and their governments’ responses to environmental issues. Seventy-five percent reported feeling the “future is frightening,” and 83 percent said humanity “failed to take care of the planet.” The study also reported that nearly half said their “feelings about climate change negatively affected their daily life and functioning.”

It is not clear if counterarguments — often disparaged by Democrats as “denialist” — will be presented.

Students have returned to school in California amid a searing heat wave in the state — which is typical for late August and early September in the state, but such events are routinely cited as evidence of what was once called global warming.

Obama administration climate official Steven Koonin has pointed out that it is more likely that winters are becoming milder, rather than summers becoming hotter.

US authorities have not detected any attempts by foreign actors to directly interfere in the upcoming presidential election, representatives of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI) have stated. Intelligence officials did, however, claim that Russia, Iran and China are trying to sway public opinion and sow discord in American society.

During the 2016 and 2020 elections, US intelligence agencies repeatedly alleged that Moscow was deploying hackers and using “information warfare” to swing the vote in favor of Donald Trump.

None of these claims have been proven true; a report released by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in 2019 found them to be baseless.

During a multi-agency press briefing in Washington DC on Friday, an unnamed representative of the ODNI said: “We have not observed any foreign actors seeking to interfere in the conduct of the 2024 elections.”

“Instead of interference, the IC assesses adversaries so far are focused on using information operations and propaganda to try to shape voter preferences or undermine confidence in the election,” the official added.

When making similar claims in the past, US authorities have rarely bothered to define what they meant by disinformation when leveling accusations at Russia, Iran and China.

These were the top three nations supposedly attempting to “exacerbate divisions in US society for their own benefit.” The ODNI official added that there are several other countries that “are considering activities that at minimum test the boundaries of election influence,” while stopping short of naming them.

The official singled out Moscow as the “pre-eminent and most active foreign influence threat to this year’s US elections.”

As for Iran, the US intelligence agency believes the country is “making a greater effort than in the past to influence this year’s elections,” looking to “stoke discord and undermine confidence in our electoral process.”

China, by contrast, is more “focused on influencing down-ballot races” at the state and local levels, according to US authorities. Beijing is allegedly seeking to “counter US politicians viewed as anti-China and to support others viewed as pro-China.”

Earlier this week, the US government imposed sanctions on two RT employees over their alleged role in disseminating video clips that sowed “discord and division” in the country.

Commenting on similar allegations back in July, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed them as “absurd.” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova insisted at around the same time that Russia is not in the habit of meddling in the internal affairs of sovereign countries.

China and Iran have similarly denied previous American claims

In a Black Lives Matter-inspired move, a British university has cancelled the term “Anglo-Saxon” from its curriculum.

The University of Nottingham has removed “Algo-Saxon” from courses on history and literature to push back against “nationalist narratives”.

According to The Telegraph, a masters-level course, Viking and Anglo-Saxon Studies, has been renamed as Viking and Early Medieval English Studies.

Another module, a literature course originally named “A Tale of Seven Kingdoms: Anglo-Saxon and Viking-Age England from Bede to Alfred the Great” has been recast as “Early Mediaeval England from Bede to Alfred the Great”.

While the thrust of the “decolonise the curriculum” agenda — which the university pledged to do amid the Black Lives Matter movement — has typically focussed on attacking British history and identity, the university reportedly said that it will seek to “problematize the term ‘Viking’” as well.

Nottingham academics have also been seeking to dismantle “essentialist ideas” about nationality, namely the very concept of a distinct English identity which has unique and fundamental characteristics.

The school is not alone in attacking the history of the Anglo-Saxons, with the University of Cambridge now teaching students that Anglo-Saxons never actually existed as a distinct ethnic group.

The move, ironically made by Cambridge’s leading Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic (ASNC) studies, was reportedly done in order to promote “anti-racist” ideology.

“One concern has been to address recent concerns over use of the term ‘Anglo-Saxon’ and its perceived connection to ethnic/racial English identity,” the department is reported as saying.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Cambridge University Press academic publication, the Anglo-Saxon England Journal, said that it would be removing Anglo-Saxon from its name to better represent the “international, interdisciplinary and rapidly evolving nature of research in this field”.

The Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans has ruled that illegal immigrants do not have the right to bear arms under the Second Amendment.

This ruling is a significant victory for the rule of law and American sovereignty, as it underscores the importance of upholding the rights and protections reserved for U.S. citizens.

The case involved Jose Paz Medina-Cantu, a Mexican national who was arrested in Texas by Border Patrol agents in 2022. Medina-Cantu, who had illegally re-entered the United States after being deported, was found in possession of a handgun.

After pleading guilty to the charges of illegal possession of a firearm and unlawful re-entry, Medina-Cantu shamelessly attempted to challenge the legality of his conviction, arguing that the ban on his firearm possession violated his Second Amendment rights, Fox News reported.

However, the three-judge panel delivered a decisive response, affirming that the Second Amendment’s protections do not extend to individuals who are in the country illegally.

U.S. Circuit Judge James Ho, a respected conservative voice appointed by President Trump, wrote a concurring opinion that highlighted the clear distinction between the rights of American citizens and those who have violated our immigration laws.

Judge Ho wrote:

The Second Amendment protects the right of “the people” to keep and bear arms. Our court has held that the term “the people” under the Second Amendment does not include illegal aliens.

Illegal aliens don’t qualify under the definition of “the people” set forth in Verdugo-Urquidez and Heller—not as a matter of common sense or Court precedent. As to common sense, an illegal alien does not become “part of a national community” by unlawfully entering it, any more than a thief becomes an owner of property by stealing it.

And as to precedent, the Court has repeatedly explained that “an alien . . . does not become one of the people to whom these things are secured by our Constitution by an attempt to enter forbidden by law.”

Moreover, the Court has provided further reason why it reaches this conclusion. For an illegal alien “[t]o appeal to the Constitution is to concede that this is a land governed by that supreme law.” And “the power to exclude [aliens from the United States] has been determined to exist” under our Constitution. So, the Court concluded, “those who are excluded cannot assert the rights in general obtaining in a land to which they do not belong as citizens or otherwise.”

South Korean police are investigating messaging platform Telegram in connection with online sex crimes. The country is trying to tackle deepfake pornography targeting young women, according to a senior police official quoted by Yonhap News Agency.

Last week, local police received 88 reports of deepfake porn, the head of the National Office of Investigation, Woo Jong-soo, told the media, adding that 24 suspects had been identified in relation to the complaints.

The inquiry comes a week after the arrest of its CEO and founder Pavel Durov in France.

“As France has done, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency launched an internal investigation into the corporate entity of Telegram before officially booking it,” Woo said, adding that the probe would closely examine whether it had been abetting the distribution of sexually explicit deepfake content.

He said the administration of the messaging platform “does not readily provide investigation data, such as account information” to state authorities, “including those in the US.”

South Korean police are planning to collaborate with the French investigative authorities and international institutions as part of its probe into Telegram.

Eight automated programs creating deepfake pornography spread via Telegram are under scrutiny as part of the investigation, as well as group chat rooms responsible for disseminating such content.

Durov was arrested last Saturday shortly after arriving at Paris-Le Bourget Airport, and has since been charged with multiple offenses, including complicity in “administering an online platform” used by criminal gangs to conduct illicit activities, and refusing to cooperate with investigators.

The tech entrepreneur, who is a citizen of Russia, France, the United Arab Emirates, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, was released on a €5 million ($5.55 million) bail on Wednesday and ordered to remain in France until the case against him concludes.

Telegram has insisted that the company complies with EU laws and that its content moderation policies are “within industry standards,” adding that blaming a platform or its owner for abuse of that platform was “absurd.”

The Ukrainian anthem has been found embedded in the source code of the voter database in the state of New Hampshire, the development of which had apparently been outsourced to offshore programmers, according to Politico.

Election officials had previously decided to replace the state’s voter registration database before the upcoming 2024 presidential election and reportedly turned to a small Connecticut-based IT firm called WSD Digital to develop the software.

However, upon reviewing the completed project, it was revealed that the firm had offshored some of the work. Given that this posed a risk of unknown coders outside the US having access to the software and potentially being able to manipulate voter lists, New Hampshire officials hired a forensic firm to scour the code for signs of hidden malware.

The probe reportedly revealed a number of “unwelcome surprises,” Politico claimed, citing a person familiar with the investigation. These included the use of open-source code, software which had been misconfigured to connect to servers outside the country, and the lyrics to the Ukrainian national anthem.

“A programmer had hard-coded the Ukrainian national anthem into the database, in an apparent gesture of solidarity with Kiev,” Politico wrote.

State officials, however, have stated that none of these findings have amounted to evidence of wrongdoing and that all the issues had been resolved by the company in charge of the database’s development before it came into use.

“This was a disaster averted,” Politico’s source said, noting that hackers could have potentially exploited the vulnerabilities to edit the state’s voter rolls or use them to stoke election conspiracies.

While the potential catastrophe in New Hampshire has apparently been averted, Politico stated that its own six-month-long investigation into the matter suggests that similar issues could pop up in other states due to a lack of oversight of the development of vote-processing software.

“The technology vendors who build software used on Election Day face razor-thin profit margins” the outlet wrote, noting that this provides little room for crucial investments in security and results in many states lacking a rigorous system to verify what actually goes into election software.

Meanwhile, the FBI reported last month that it was “confident” that Iran has been trying to interfere in the upcoming election in November and had allegedly sought to gain access to the presidential campaigns of both political parties.

Tehran, however, has denied the accusations, calling them “unsubstantiated and devoid of any standing” and insisting that it has no intention in meddling in US elections.

In his article titled “U.N. Casts Little Light on Heat,” climate expert Bjorn Lomborg observes Guterres’ notoriously hyperbolic language on global warming and its effects ignores the fact that high temperatures are “mostly a result of seasonal changes that have long existed,” rather than of climate change.

The U.N.’s “latest climate-change alarms are more about demagoguery than data,” Lomborg writes.

A groundbreaking 2024 study found that “the global death rate from extreme heat has declined by more than 7% a decade over the past 30 years,” he states.

More importantly, perhaps, Lomborg points out that seasonal rises in temperature kill far fewer people than cold weather.

“In Europe, cold kills nearly four times as many people as heat — a danger that a warming climate helps ameliorate,” he notes.

While 155,000 people die each year from extremely high temperatures, 4.5 million people die from the cold, he adds.

Along with the U.N.’s alarmist-in-chief, Lomborg also calls out the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) for publishing a wildly inaccurate report on deaths from extreme heat.

In early August, the W.H.O. declared that in Europe alone, more than 175,000 people die each year because of extreme heat, a figure that overstated the real figure by some 400 percent.

Another U.N. group — UNICEF — its dedicated child-welfare organization — “also rang a false alarm in late July,” Lomborg writes, lamenting in a policy brief the deaths of 377 young people in 2021 from high temperatures across Europe and Central Asia.

The brief fails to mention that the very report it references shows that annual heat deaths of young people have declined by more than 50 percent over three decades and that “cold causes about three times as many child deaths in these regions each year.”

Deaths of young people from heat pale in comparison next to malnutrition, which claims 26,000 young lives across Europe and Central Asia every year, Lomborg writes.

Ironically, falsely attributing heat deaths to “global warming” is likely to lead to more heat deaths, Lomborg suggests, since the recent decline in mortality from heat is largely due to greater access to electricity and therefore to air conditioning, something that alarmists detest.

Economic growth and cheap, reliable energy are the greatest antidote to heat-related deaths, he observes, but these are only possible by prioritizing energy availability over climate ideology.

Guterres’ remedy to the so-called “climate crisis,” which involves abandoning fossil fuels, “would cost quadrillions of dollars, spike electricity costs, and spread poverty,” Lomborg writes.

The US Secret Service will be provided with additional military support capabilities for presidential and vice presidential candidates ahead of the upcoming election in November, representatives of the agency and the Pentagon announced on Thursday.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has directed US Northern Command to plan and provide additional support and resources for the Secret Service at various locations during the election, according to Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh.

A Secret Service spokesperson said the US Department of Defense had been providing the service with additional assistance, which includes “logistics, transportation and communications, through the 2024 campaign season.”

The representative noted that this support had been granted following the assssination attempt on former US President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.

Trump narrowly escaped death when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on him from a nearby rooftop. The would-be assassin fired several shots, one of which struck the Republican candidate’s ear. One rally attendee was killed in the attack and two others were seriously injured before Secret Service snipers eliminated the shooter. The assassination attempt has since been investigated by the FBI but Crooks’ motives remain unclear.

Following the incident, the Secret Service said it was “ashamed” of the security lapse that allowed the incident to occur. The head of the service, Kimberly Cheatle, who had served as director of the agency since August 2022, was forced to resign following widespread outcry over her failure to protect the former president.

Trump, meanwhile, has expressed gratitude to the Secret Service agents who were protecting him that day, and has instead accused Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden of “making it very difficult to have proper staffing in terms of Secret Service,” as well as using rhetoric that could “get assassins or potential assassins going.”

“Maybe that bullet is because of their rhetoric,” Trump told TV host Dr Phil earlier this week.

The former president also suggested that it was God who spared his life that day, and that his survival of the assassination attempt was a sign that he had a mission to save America and, perhaps, the world.
