I live about 25 minutes from Athens, and this is part of our local lore here in east Tennessee. This is a red state (except for the brain dead west Tennessee area around Memphis, and a strong Libertarian-Conservative characteristic in our DNA. If what I see at local gun shows is any indicator, such an event could be possible again under the right circumstances.
Back when you could find real history, there was a similar story of Texas (yes democrats) surrounding and then taking over the Reconstruction government at the Capital. The illegal government pleaded with the northern invading president Grant to send troops and he didn’t. Texas rewrote their Constitution, which is still in effect today. Go read it! It starts with a Bill of Rights. See if this Constitution fits the modern beliefs of Democrats today. BTW, Texas, the conditions of your illegal annexation / treaty with the United States has never been honored by anyone but Texas. They did not protect our borders then, and they do not now. Restore the Republic!
It won't just be in Tennessee this time.
