I read up a bit on the story of that door. There's two "hidden" doors in the Oval Office. They're doors that were added much later on (I think mid 20th century). They provide access to secondary places in the White House. They were created like that because there's already several doors in the Oval Office and adding 2 more would have ruined the look, so they made them blend in with the walls.
