I find myself sharing this website far and wide. I never did that with Voat because it wasn't for the faint of heart. You have to be able to blow right passed the shills and blockhead comments to dig for the gold. Plus, I didn't want people I know to think I agreed with much of what was posted there. I think this progression was, like the rest of this operation, planned. The people that were in the trenches can now move among the general population and spread the information to a broader audience.

I don't think it was from a lack of sharing links. Between family and friends, I probably shared links to voat with a couple dozen people. Some of them more than once. Only 1 or 2 bothered to look, and I doubt they did more than look once in a while.
But you are right about it not being for the faint of heart. For all the time I spent on voat, I rarely spent time on the chan boards or 8kun. I guess I Just wasn't up to wading through that mine field.
In retrospect, I think voat was the incubator that brought in people from a wider swath of society, who were a little better suited for spreading the information around. And then the time came to turn us loose.
