You need to look up local stations near you using something like

It’s also helpful to get the BaoFeng usb cable so you can program a bunch of stations like weather, emergency services, etc
Agreed. Makes life much easier. Also a decent upgraded antenna can be had for less than $20
What kind of range does that type of antenna get you?
Highly dependent on your local terrain, time of day, etc but I can often clearly listen in on a repeater that's 25 miles away (using baofeng F8HP)
If it's a shortwave radio, you can listen around the world.
Not quite https://hamradioplanet.com/ham-radio-vs-shortwave-radio/
How am I incorrect? You absolutely can listen to stations from around the world. I've done it. For example, I've listened to Radio Moscow and the Deutsche Welle. I've also listened to ham operators from all over. My brother has talked to people all around the world with his ham radio.
In short, you can listen around the world, whether it's a ham radio or just a shortwave receiver.
Is this really what we should be talking about right now? Fine, you're right, I'm wrong. I'm going back to the home page.
OP, there are a zillion resources online for this. Good luck!
Baofengs are tricky to program, watch some videos on it. I have several of them. They are a decent radio though for the price.

Type this into Google: patriot shortwave radio stations
You will get a lot.
Also, just scan through the bands late at night just to see what you find on your own. Remember to scan slow, as this isn't pop radio. There will be silent gaps between speakers. You will probably have to scan a lot of times. But you will eventually find some stations.
If you're really interested, you might want to get a full ham rig and a good outside antenna. Don't transmit without a license, or you will get caught. You can listen all you want. That's what I do.
You can also hear what foreign news people are saying about events and compare it to what you hear on US media. For example, back in the early 80s, Russia shot down an airliner. Radio Moscow said it was a spy plane.
Baofeng will only get you a couple miles without a repeater.
