Get yourself Ubuntu and install it on a PC or laptop sometime. It's Linux, it has a clean UI, and it works. I have a dual boot with Windows if I really ever need anything proprietary but honestly, I haven't logged into Windows in years.
Canonical is controlled by Microsoft and Amazon. Ubuntu is a good introduction for new Linux users, but migrate to another distro as soon as you are comfortable.
