Today, President Donald J. Trump declared that an emergency exists in the District of Columbia and ordered Federal assistance to supplement the District’s response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from the 59th Presidential Inauguration from January 11 to January 24, 2021.

I thought I had posted this in another thread but that seems to have disappeared.

I hope I'm wrong, and please correct me if so, but I believe this is completely & totally normal, mundane and routine.

I believe a state of emergency is declared before every inauguration / major Washington DC event (4th july maybe too?) for the simple fact that it gives the government special rights, abilities, and excuses to do things they normally wouldn't.

This is for the sole purpose of beefing up security in DC ahead of the "inauguration."

I do not think there's anything to this declaration, unfortunately.

All that said; why are they talking about deploying 15,000 National Guard troops to DC when;

• The inaugural parade has already been cancelled & seats & other amenities that had been put up in advance of that event, have been taken down already

• They are now STRONGLY discouraging (prohibiting maybe?) people from coming to DC for the inauguration - there are threads here already

• The inauguration was ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO BE A "virtual" EVENT!!!! For many reasons; COVID, they know Xiden can't attract more than 20 people, etc.

None of it makes sense.

But.....I do not think there's anything significant about this state of emergency.

I belive it's more a procedural thing to give them excuses to do things security-wise they feel are needed for the "inauguration"

But I could be wrong.....
