My paternal grandfather was in WWII. He was a POW after having both legs hit with shrapnel. The nazis were going to leave him and others there on the field to die and apparently the red cross stepped in. They were taken to a hospital in France to recover and then became POWs. -- no regard for human life whatsoever (sounds just like the left in the US today). He REFUSED to talk about the war and discouraged any conversation of it. He was the kindest, most generous soul who would give somebody in need the shirt off his back. He was also the last of a dying breed: the REAL man. I cannot put into words how much he respected my grandmother and how he treated her despite his war baggage.
My maternal great-grandparents grabbed their children and left Italy to get away from Mussolini and came to the US. THEY understood fascism and got out of Dodge.
The idiots who make these comparisons are just that: idiots, or perhaps I should say "useful idiots".
Thanks for giving us a place for a cathartic vent!
This stuff just pisses me off.
