That's not what I'm implying at all. Jews were only chosen because of Abraham. There are many times in the OT where God just wanted to give up on them and destroy them. He even offered to make Moses the new seed, so to speak.

They being the most misguided, as you say, doesn't explain David or Solomon. Or even Saul. Or the kings of Judah.
