Sterno can be found in camping supply and houseware areas of stores. Couple bucks a can. Also charcoal is readily available still if you have that type of grill but small camp grills well be sufficient to boil water. Stock up on charcoal if you don’t have a generator and can’t afford or find one. Last hurricane, propane was next to impossible to find during the hurricane watch period.
All this. I would like to add that uncured wood (green wood or new wood) is very hard to burn. Doesn't produce much heat. If forced and you don't have a cured wood stack (cord wood), you should try to find downed trees. They should be cured enough if they fell about 6 months ago. Just a pro tip.
any tips on best food to stock up?
Canned goods. Rice when stored properly. Doesn't hurt to have salt, sugar and dry herbs on hand either.
Don't forget, you will need a way to cook. Outdoor propane "boiler". I used it for 3 months during some renovations at my house. Worked great.
