You must believe God has GIVEN you eternal life. It's a GIFT, not of works, not of deeds, not by 'quitting your sin', not by going to church, not by getting baptized. It's a gift!
The moment you stop relying on yourself to get to heaven, and just trust Christ to save you, then you have eternal life.
