Not hard to answer. She was working for the Stasi, means she was spying on regime critics such as Robert Havemann. When the Berlin wall came down, C_A agents immediately raided the Stasi building and took tons of folders with them. I bet my bottom dollar there was enough stuff to blackmail her with. Remember: Presidents as well as chancellors are selected, not elected.
