They needed to give us the world wide web and wait for it to reach maturity. The black hats wanted it for surveillance purposes and the white hats wanted it for patriotic purposes. Imo.

Yes they tried to do this back then with JFK and he was assassinated 3 days before his executive order taking us back to the gold standard was to go into effect.
