Need I remind you that most of the greatest soldiers in history, and the people that lived through the toughest times fought and won their battles by keeping their head held high?
The 101st airborne, upon being relieved by Patton's tank divisions, is famous for strongly rejecting and refuting the narrative that "Patton had saved them", saying that they could have kept going for a while without his help. They had been operating on critical supply shortage, many not even having bullets for their guns.
These were the same men that landed behind the beaches of Normandy with parachutes and no supplies but the ones on their person, the morning before the first beach landing ever occurred. They pressed the hardest offensives, time and time again; they liberated concentration camps; they were prepared to go fight in the Pacific, until it was announced that that would not be necessary. These were the best of the best of soldiers, and not because they constantly were dooming "oh we're out of supplies, now the krauts will steamroll us". No, they proclaimed loudly that surrendering to the enemy that had surrounded them was "NUTS!".
Delusional by what standards?
