I'm missing the bread references. What's the story here?

Someone who knows better than I can correct me. Baking the bread comes from the chans I believe. Once a topic starts to get so many crumbs, the bakers bake the bread allowing the post to continue. Never brrn on the chans so someone can explain it better than I can.
