i believe that Pence was playing traitor

whether he was clean all along - or dirty and flipped by Trump early on - he's been playing a roll.

he's the lynch pin in the operation - going through back channels to the DS and egging them on.

he is the double agent that you need in the enemies camp to constantly give them confidence and misdirection
