Not long ago, my sister and I were sitting on the patio together. Suddenly, I saw a look of complete and utter amazement come over her face. I turned to look but was too late. Whatever she saw was gone.
It was a bald eagle. In Los Angeles County, in the San Gabriel Valley, about two miles south of the mountains. We've lived in this valley for over fifty years and neither of us had ever seen one in the area. It was soaring low, only about telephone pole-height, and flew directly over her house.
The kicker? As if that wasn't spectacular enough? It was Election Day.
