Santa Ana winds. Typical for this time of year. I've lived in California most of my life. We used to wear our rain ponchos and spread them out so that we could fly when we were kids and the Santa Anas ( aka Santanas) blew. Oh, the joy of hovering 4 inches off the ground for 5 seconds!
There is still a lot of old infrastructure. The winds blow down powerlines and wind blown tree branches bang on transformers until they blow. PGE and SoCal Edison has been hit hard with lawsuits because of the fires these often start. So now the power companies turn off power in these areas during high winds.
Im in the bay and this is one of the worst windstorms we have ever had, it started last night around 12 probably.
Yeah, Santa Anas are 50mph in SoCal. Usually the run at 35.
Had to turn my weather alerts off. It was making me bonkers
