And who do they answer to? Who do the generals answer to? There's no choice in who they give power to, because they are required by law to obey the commander-in-chief. Even if he's a child-raping, satan-worshiping mental patient.

No they do not take an oath to the Commander In Chief. They take an oath to the Constitution and that is it.
