No. Unlike the President, his term doesn't automatically expire. Also, he's in line for the succession, and will get it if the folks ahead in line are ineligible/illegitimate or in expired terms.
Thanks for the fact-check. That might be the case. That said, I believe that tendering resignation is a matter of tradition, not a matter of law. Also they don't want to get fired. Do you have information that he truly resigned? Or a source that the position is eliminated automatically in favor of an acting civil servant? Because there's never a new one without a confirmation hearing.
