405,399 Americans died in WWII according to a quick search.
There were not 400,000 Americans killed by COVID. There may have been that many who died and had a positive test result.
Also interesting to note, a doctor needs to come up with a cause of death. It isn't cut and dry as you may think. I work in healthcare and many times it is a shoddy guess, especially with patients who have a lot of comorbidities.
There are plenty stories of absurd deaths being counted as COVID.
CDC has COVID only related deaths at 340k The others include influenza and pneumonia. Interesting.
