Obama did too. They have to face the obelisk when they take their oath. Symbolism is everything to these people. Obama took the oath again later in the white house facing the obelisk and id bet money biden did the same thing. Btw the Washington monument is 555 ft tall. Bonus points to anyone who can guess how deep the foundation is....
