Am I tripping out? Look at the electrical sockets. Holes into the walls??

This is nothing, I can explain. I worked for a production company over one summer who ran events like this - set up truss, ran cables, lights, projection equipment, etc.
It's very common for a room like this (that sees lots of cameras) to have removable panels in the walls/columns. These panels pop out, and there are connections for power, internet, sound, lighting controls, etc. You can replace these panels with other panels that have holes in them for cables to pass through, and then after the event you put the solid panels back in.
As for the spike tape (markings) on the floor, this is normal too. It's not just for productions like concerts or TV shows, it's for corporate events and whatnot too.
Not to doom, there's a lot of other great stuff going on today, but I wouldn't put even an ounce of thought into this right here.
I ended up coming to the same conclusion (removable panels) based on looking at older videos from the same location. Thanks for chiming in!
