some "tech" (idk if supercomputers, alien tech, or whatever) that can basically "show the future" to say it simple. And they have seen an ending that is impossible to avoid. No matter what they change, no matter what data they put in, nothing "can stop what is coming". And they are afraid. The ending is already set. Now its like two chess players. The bad guys already lost (in the future) and can only delay the ending.

I dont remember much more from the interview, something about driving them (the elite) down under the surface
