Yeah, I remember when he announced it early in the pandemic. They're referring to when he went to the hospital after the first debate, and we heard he was using unheard of drugs like regeneron.
(Look, my parents are libs who think the election was fair, there was a Capitol riot of untold proportion, and Antifa is not worth talking about. So yes, they're crazy, but I do recall Trump using this regeneron in the hospital, not just HCQ.)
In the hospital he was given regeneron... but there are multiple treatments now.
They break down into existing drugs repurposed (off label) vs. new drugs.
HCQ and Ivermectin are both Zinc ionophores that work very well to treat the chinese virus. HCQ works when given in the early stage of an infection. Ivermectin works early to mid stages, and also works to prevent infections. It is both stronger and cheaper than HCQ. Both have been in use for decades, and are proven to be very safe. Given the choice, I would now use Ivermectin instead of HCQ.
As for regeneron, I don't know how it compares to Ivermectin in terms of effectiveness or safety/side effects.
Ivermectin is hard to beat though. One dose for $2.00 and you are done. Generic, made everywhere, plentiful, dirt cheap, safe... every country should be using it, not just India and Japan.
They had to get the vaccine out. It wouldn't have gotten emergency approval if there was an effective treatment.
That being said....
Lib parents keep saying: "if HCQ is so great, why didn't Trump take it?"
Ummm - he DID take HCQ, and announced that he did during a press conference. I know libtards are stupid, but seriously...
