I take 5000 iu daily. I don't get any useful sunlight in winter even here in the Mediterranean. The sun doesn't get high enough, even on a clear day.
I see no point in taking more than 5000 iu. It's plenty for any scenario including covid.
I also take K2 200µg (essential with D3 to move calcium from the blood into the bones). And I take magnesium citrate 400mg (required by muscles including the heart and appears to be useful in fighting covid).
And I take zinc 10mg (essential for covid).
Note that for covid protection it's no good waiting till you catch it then taking these supplements. It takes time for your body to accumulate enough reserve. You need to be taking them for at least 3 weeks before any infection.
Thats a lot. 10000 should be the upper bound. Research vit D toxicity. Getting your blood levels checked doesnt even tell you the whole story, its stored in the fat. If you get symptoms of that they can last for months. Vit D builds up in your system.
I've been taking 10,000-15,000 IU's daily of Vit D3 and get a lot of sunlight. I'd increase it but don't know where returns start to diminish vs cost.

Why not vitamin C also. So cheap and maybe the most important of them all. In gram doses.
also, Chaga mushroom is a excellent immune booster and in chyna people who were on a Chaga regimen remained free from covid ...
I'm taking 20,000 IU per day and noticed my levels drop to low normal in winter, and I live in a sunny part of the country. Every person is different
