Morality is a poor man's ethics. Unfortunately most people are sheep and need the guidance of a shepard (religion) or civilisation falls off the rails. Mutual beliefs create unity at the cost of individual expression. New age spiritual types are generally folks who are both open minded and deeply caring. Yes they can be light on in logic and cluster around the same flame, but mostly they reach that point on their own accord rather than via childhood indoctrination.
If you want to evolve as a human being then you will need to come to terms with your shadow. True evil is derived from self hatred. Once you believe you are irredeemable and destined to go to hell, then of course you are going to dedicate your evil doings to the percived devil in order to gain favour. If you intergrate your shadow, a traumatic process that destroys the ego, you learn light and dark are two halves of the whole. You could be tasked with destruction of the world and still not be evil. The nature of good vs evil is just selfless vs selfish. Simple ethics 101. Being selfless in a state of mortal fear is not easy.
There are plenty of people who are just good people, they don't steal because it's wrong, and they wouldn't want things stolen from them... not because some book told them they will go to a scary burny place for eternity
Don’t steal because it’s wrong.
Who says it’s wrong? Why is anything wrong if truth is relative?
Might there be someone who set the standards of morality or are humans just naturally moral people and just “know” the difference between right and wrong? We have a moral compass, why is it there? How did it get there?
