After realizing he hadn’t imprisoned the Devil for 27 years inside a cage.
A cage he built.
The Warden had imprisoned himself for 27 years.
He couldn’t tell which side of the cage he was on.
The person he put in the cage wasn’t the devil.
The person in the cage is Nemesis
A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent.
