SoftLayer is just backbone. Nothing nefarious afaik.

They own and host a ton of data centers thus have a ton of allocation for IPv4.

Looking Glass wouldn’t touch IPv4 on a public net. It wouldn’t have the need.

If anything it would only knock over Google / search aggregates for accumulative data

Looking glass is also a tool used to query the BGP route table from the perspective of the router where the tool runs.

It’s very normal for backbone providers to provide a looking glass for users to troubleshoot routing issues.
