If Roberts backs out,. wouldn't the responsibility go to the next senior Justice? Woops, that would be Thomas and the dems/libs would never allow that.
No; the Chief Justice is only and always required to preside if the president is being tried, and the ‘claim’ is that that is not the case, since Trump is no longer the president, although he was when he was impeached.
I don't know why people have this idea that he buck gets passed to someone else. It's the Chief Justice or it isn't legal. In this case it's already illegal before it even got to this point.
