I mean, look at the writing style. He's trying to evoke a scriptural feel. "Deceivers" instead of "liars", "Shall", "heaped upon", "Europa", "Falling upon her sword". I mean, is it a literal sword? This is all Allegory. Its by no means to be read as stringently as you suggest.
