Yeah, I can't picture how that would be revealed and what would happen.

I would be fine with a new election. There is nothing in the Constitution about having a new election though. It would have to be non-binding election where the President agrees to step down if he loses and puts in place the winner by having the VP resign, nominate the new VP, then he himself resign.
