Retired NCO here. Would have been one of the first things I told my troops. A typical brief was something like this:
No talking to the media, refer them to public affairs.
Talk to the civilians, but no discussing mission stuff. No discussing things that might upset the civilians, they may be in earshot.
Here's a list of shit we don't talk about (insert list).
Always look and act professional, you're here to help civilians, not look like.a clueless bag of shit or a conquering Army.
We do mot want to be put in a position where we can be accused of anything illegal or perceived as taking advantage. Leave Maryjane Rottencrotch alone and keep it in your pants.
