I started studying Homesteading.... It's a great way to not rely on anyone.
My husband and I are going to start working towards this. We live in a neighborhood and can't move right now, so I'm going to start studying and learning skills while we are waiting. I've lived in the suburbs my whole life, so I'm a complete newbie.
I have a black thumb, but I really want to start a garden this year. I'd love some resources if you have any. I live in DFW (Texas) area.
I wish I were in TX. My spouse and I just bought 8 acres. I have seen several indoor green houses. This may be a good start. Pinterest (sorry if we have boycott this platform, too) has a lot of resources!
I haven't boycotted Pinterest. Seems like the most innocent of all of these platforms hahaha and pretty neutral as far as I know. There is lefty crap on there, but I haven't seen any censoring of conservative/religious content. You can still find Bible verses, etc.
Ahhh 8 acres!!!! You're so lucky! Our backyard is super tiny, and we have low fences and an HOA, so I don't think we would be allowed to build one. It's also super hot here. Our winters only last about 8-10 weeks and then it's warm again lol
I would love to have a spring/summer garden and then a fall garden which I've heard do really well here. It would be nice if I could learn how to can and either can or freeze my own veggies to make it through the winter. I'm also dying to grow my own herbs that I can dry and use during the winter. When we eventually move and have land then I definitely would love a greenhouse for the winter weeks/months so we could have a year-round garden.
There is a North Texas Vegetable Gardeners group on FB. I live on 11 acres in rural north Texas. We have bees, a garden, and are building a chicken coop right now.
I want to build an underground greenhouse. I found it on Pinterest, actually. For you, may not be necessary. In NC, we have a few months of cold but then right back to growing season.

Thank you!!!!
Try quail instead of chickens if space is an issue.
I have a stupid HOA, so I don't believe we are allowed to have chickens/quail. I want to start with a garden. :)
