To be fair, there is no "one" nuclear football; there are multiple nuclear footballs. The Vice-President has one and I believe there are multiple backups in various secure locations (eg Camp David).
The football carries communication equipment and a set of nuclear options that get updated when appropriate based on current and/or anticipated events.
What matters is the "biscuit" that Biden now carries. On that card are a series of codes that can be used to properly identify the President. If a launch order is given and the codes don't match, no launch occurs.
