I trust him. Another observation, Pompeo is big on tradition/decorum. The unwritten rule of administrations is that you bow out gracefully and don't interfere with the next administration. The fact that Pompeo is making these strong political statements, in contradiction to the Biden administration's latest pronouncements about China, tells me that his comments are directed by an outside authority.
