Washington, US?
Yeah I noticed that too. I’ve noticed they haven’t used D. C. For a while now. can anyone answer why?
Occupied Foreign Country, also it is bankrupt.
'DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA' WAS TERRITORY CEEDED TO FORM THE CAPITAL OF THE UNITED STATES.
WASHINGTON IS TECHNICALLY IN DC, BUT IS IT STILL THE TERRITORY OF THE CAPITAL OF THE UNITED STATES?
Yes it is but I would expect it to say Washington DC not Washington US unless DC is no longer what it once was. Washington is a state. Why muddy the waters?
The same reason we say Paris, France, omitting precisely where in France it's located. Isn't RT in Russia?
But Washington US would be on the West coast
Not in the mind of a foreigner writing about the American city. You have to realize that people in various countries have different points of reference. Most foreigners don't even know about Washington as a state. None of them know about the "original" Washington in NC, which locals refer to as Little Washington.
Now here's a puzzle for you. We can call other countries and cities by our preferred English names, such as Germany, Hungary, Moskow, etc. But a number of years ago, we were told not to say or write Peking, but to say or write Beijing. I wonder, why does that rule applies to China, but no other country?
Good catch. Didn't notice that at first. Isn't "Washington, U.S." the actual State of Washington? What do we call that now if they are going with this?
