There is testimony (not obtained by torture) that Templar's performed these bizarre rituals including sodomy and kissing a cats anus. I think there were other things that they did (like introducing baphomet worship) but I would have to do some more digging. They're basically one of the first "deep states" and probably a progenitor of the illuminati. They may have been good when they started off or at least the lower levels were sincere in their love of God, but eventually they turned to evil and I think their extermination at the hands of the King Philip was fortuitous and deserved.
