So, I've started going down an interesting rabbit-hole. So far, (if I'm reading this right), IF a military tribunal is called, they do have authority to handle rape and sexual assault cases.... https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/818
Thanks for the research. Like others, I too was wondering why military tribunals? And here it is. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/920
This is where I get stuck: this just says that a military court can try such cases...but as far as I can tell, military courts generally only apply to people actually in the armed forces. One notable exception would be prisoners of war...but I really don't see how that would apply in this case.
